Do new items need to have any sales history before they appear in StockTrim?

If the SKU exists as active in StockTrim or your inventory management system then it should show in StockTrim even if there are no orders for it. You can then go to options -> link demand to link the demand to a similar selling item and use that history to base the forecasts from.
