The forecasts can get complex very quickly when there is manual overridden demand on your built products that you want to be applied to the forecasts and order requirements for the required components to make them.
It's especially complex for the system to take into account when some products of a component have manual demand, and some don't - since the system needs to take into account the auto calculated demand, as well as the manual demand, and it's unclear how much of the regular (system calculated) demand is superseded by the manual demand.
We therefore recommend being careful doing this as it may cause some inaccuracies in your forecasts. We'd recommend either doing no manual forecasts, or if it's important, ensure that all built products for a component have manual forecasts (explicit demand) so it is clear.
Nonetheless, here is the algorithm of how it's calculated:
If the component itself has overridden demand then that is used as the monthly forecast (we recommend this in complex scenarios)
If there is only 1 built product that has overridden demand, and the component doesn't have any individual orders, and the total overridden demand is greater than 0, then the forecasted demand is the overridden demand of the built product X the BOM quantity.
If there are multiple products built from this component and all built products have overridden demand, and the component doesn't have any individual orders, and the total overridden demand is greater than 0, then the monthly forecast is the sum of all built products demand X the BOM quantity of each.
If there are multiple products built from this component, or if it has it's own individual orders, or not all products have overridden demand, the monthly forecast is the Total overridden demand for the built products X the BOM quantity for each + the system-calculated forecast for this item - the sum of the system-calculated forecasts for each of the overridden built products X their BOM quantities
If there is overridden demand for any customer specific forecasts, this is then added.
Otherwise, in other cases, it is the calculated monthly forecast.
